Diversity is beautiful and necessary in this day and age, for any country to experience. To be a truly global person, we need to be interested and open to ideas that are different from ours. America has been struggling with open talks about race and racism in the recent years, and more parents and teachers are realizing that this unwillingness to tackle race starts at an early age. Here is an interesting article on Quartz that gives some statistics on how young children avoid the topic or even asking questions about race. The “racial colorblindness” that was promoted took a wrong turn and now people just don’t talk about it, or is shut-down as being a “racist” or “playing the race card” if we try. So what can parents do to bring positive impact on our children’s young minds? Here are some recommended books that you can read together and let your children express themselves freely about the topic. There is a lot we can do as adults to impact the way our children view the world, and bring more truly global minded people into the world! Photo from CoolMomPicks article
